Iola Public Library kicks off summer with a variety of programs for adults.
First up is the Intrepid Readers book discussion, at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Rather than discuss one book, this month attendees will discuss favorites among their recent reads outside of the program, share reviews and comments on new and forthcoming titles, and take a look back at some worthy of new attention.
Damaris Kunkler has been writing poems and lyrics since she was 8, playing the guitar since she was 20, and writing songs for 27 years. She recently won the Lawrence Kansas Songwriter Showcase and is performing at the Kansas State Fair 2019. She recently released her first album, Come Sit By My Fire. Damaris tells her story and maybe even sings a bit at Come Sit by my Fire at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10.
The library celebrates June is Dairy Month at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. Attendees will hear about todays dairy on the prairie, from Stephanie Eckroat, Crest High and ACC graduate, now executive director, Kansas Dairy Association and the Kansas Dairy Commission. They will also revisit Iolas Pet Milk Co. (1924-1967), from the days of financiers, first silos and home delivery to its demise, with local historian Donna Houser. Attendees will even make and eat free ice cream (pick up a ticket by June 6 for the free ice cream). Those with a dairy story to tell should bring it.
The Pinterest Party will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 17. This month, attendees will be making a hummingbird feeder. Pre-registration and fee of $3 are required by June 14.
At Paint a Barn Quilt, participants will block out and create their design on a 2x2 board. They can choose from several patterns printed out or create their own. These will be for inside display. The fun begins on Wednesday, June 26, and finishes the following evening. Both evenings begin at 6 oclock. Pre-registration and $5 fee are required by June 21.
The Iola Public Library Summer Reading Program presents The Neverending Story at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 29. Enjoy refreshments and good company while watching the movie The Neverending Story. The program is limited to 20 people. Its free, but registration is required by June 21. Children under 13 years old require either parental accompaniment or consent.
